Bone hei tiki
Description
The hei tiki is an ancient symbol representing the first human and is honoured as the bearer of knowledge. It is worn for clarity of thought, loyalty, inner strength, and good fortune. Hei tiki are also associated with Hine‑te‑iwaiwa — an ancestress linked to fertility, creativity, and the virtues of Māori womanhood.
This taonga is hand‑carved from whale bone, featuring individually carved teeth, paua‑shell eyes, and a detailed tongue.
It comes with two interchangeable cords — black and brown — and is presented in its own custom‑made laser‑cut gift box.
This taonga measures 13.5cm x 5.5cm.

Taking care of your Taonga
Wearing your Pounamu close to your skin can help it maintain its polish. This is because it naturally absorbs oils from your skin, which will give it a special connection to you.
To further care for your taonga, you can oil it using any natural household oils or fats such as
- olive oil
- coconut oil
- vegetable oil
- tallow
Doing so will help ensure that it remains sparkling and beautiful for many years to come.
