Petrified wood with Kupenga
Description
Tumbled petrified wood with black kupenga netting.
Petrified wood is a name given to a special type of fossilized wood.
This happens when wood is buried under ash, mud or other debris depriving the wood of oxygen. Petrification happens when water containing silica and minerals penetrates the tree’s cell walls and replaces the water with different elements or compounds like quartz causing them to harden over time, thus turning the wood to stone.
Many relate petrified wood as being an earthly energy which makes sense given these taonga were once a living tree and transformed underground. They are a good tool in helping one to connect with nature and to help with grounding. Petrified wood also relates to time given the time it takes to turn wood into stone, a reminder that all great things take time.
This taonga measures 5cm x 4xm and comes in a gift bag.
Taking care of your Taonga
Wearing your Pounamu close to your skin can help it maintain its polish. This is because it naturally absorbs oils from your skin, which will give it a special connection to you.
To further care for your taonga, you can oil it using any natural household oils or fats such as
- olive oil
- coconut oil
- vegetable oil
- tallow
Doing so will help ensure that it remains sparkling and beautiful for many years to come.
